Run the Race
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a large cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfected of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God's throne. Hebrews 12:1,2
So what are the principles if overcoming?
They are:
Lay aside every sin that snares;
Let us run with endurance the race before us;
Keep our eyes on Jesus.
We have a cloud of those who have gone before watching and waiting for us to complete the race. I know that as I endure and see a brother or sister thrown down the towel and leave the race, I grieve. They belong and have become despondent, deceived into believing they don't have what it takes and that it was all about them. Of course I don't have what it takes but the word promises me that He will strengthen me, I have Him, that is all I need.
Running with endurance is possible as I fix my eyes on Jesus. He is my reward, my source and supply. Amen!
Revelations 6:11 tells me that those who have endured before me are given a white robe and told to rest an wait until I get there. (My interpretation- I don't fancy the bit about being killed as they were, but many will)
I have a friend who created a group called Tri-freedom, and has galvanised a group of believing fitness fanatics to participate in triathlons to raise funds for the A21 cause. This foundation works to set people from slavery.
This woman has an injury that requires an operation in October but that does not stop her, she has a group going in a half ironman competition and is still going to ride the 100 required in the race. This is dogged determination at its best. She inspires me. At 60 I am determined to regain my health and again ride my bike(I was recently hit by a car whilst riding). I am already back swimming, running may have to wait a little longer. This fervor and determination is available for all who will rise up in faith and trust their God.
There is a reward folks! This isn't a useless battle. We are here to do something and as we are faithful we do His will. Trust Him when you can't see. Amen!
