Set For Destruction

But the city and everything in it are set apart for destruction to The Lord for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and everyone with her in her house will live, because she hid the men we sent. But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster on it. For all the silver and gold, the articles of bronze and iron, are dedicated to The Lord and must go into the Lord's treasury." Joshua 6:17-19

One man disobeyed and brought defeat on the Israelites and when discovered he and his whole household and all that he had were destroyed.

At present in Australia there is a suspected disease, that is carried by bats, affecting the horses on a particular farm. Any animal testing positive with the disease will probably die. Now if, because of fondness for a particular horse the farmer did not disclose the disease, he would infect the horse community. Great would be the devastation.

Covetousness is a disease. Lying is a disease. If we become habitual in these things we infect our families and community with a spirit that destroys.

God knew what He was doing when He gave instructions. He knew the hearts of all His people.

Hidden sin is not good. If I am addicted to pornography it does not just affect me but my children and their children. Pornography leads to sexual abuse and as we are seeing in the media at present not even star status will protect you.

As a Christian I belong to Christ,
All of me, not just the Sunday left overs, all! My appetites are His. I like the safety that this brings. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
