The Mark
When all the Amorite kings across the Jordan to the west and all the Cannanite kings near the sea heard how The Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, they lost heart and their courage failed because of the Israelites. At that time The Lord said to Joshua, "Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelite men again."Joshua 5:1,2
What a testimony to the powers and principalities. When a people trust their God and obey His leading mighty things happen. Not only do the natural people look in wonder so do the unseen lords.
God was definitely amazing. He gets His people through the river, gobsmacks the neighbors and then does something crazy, He tells Joshua to circumcise all the men. Now they will all be useless until they heal. If ever they were vulnerable it is now. Amazingly the neighbors are so fearful they stay away.
Is there a principle here? The circumcision shows dedication to The Lord. Their victory was going to cost them, individually, painfully and mark them for life.
Today, people are flocking to tatoo parlours to be marked for life, yes there is pain in the markings and pain in the future when realization in maturity of what they had done needs to be undone. However, what is happening to the Israelites cannot be undone.
As we step into our future what will mark us? What says we are His? The book of revelation tells of a new name and a mark on our forehead that He sees, a name on a white stone is also mentioned. We are His. Prophesy indicated that we are given a heart of flesh instead of a heart of stone. (Ezekiel 36:26)
The same God who did such amazing things is our Lord, our God. Dare we trust Him to be great in our lives? Amen!
