The Word Gives Success

This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth, you are to recite it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. Joshua 1:8

I must pull this passage of scripture out from the whole I quoted last night and study it some more. I love the word of God because I love to trowel through it looking for gems. I am back in this passage because I found a diamond.

The word used for success here is 'sakal'. This word is found frequently in the Wisdom literature to describe one's mastery of the world and insights to ifs challenges. The 'whole instruction' describes God's revelation in the forms of the previous books of the law of Moses. *

The previous 5 books was all Joshua had. I am grateful I have more. I have prophets and psalms, books of history, proverbs and best of all, books about my Saviour, the New Testament. I look for what my God is breathing on and feed on that. There is life here if we expect it and seek it with all our heart.

If I truly want to succeed in life,
in every part, then I must feast on this word and enjoy it. This word is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing through bone and marrow. This word quickens me,
fills me, makes me alive. Amen!
