Divorce

He set out from there and went to the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Then crowds converged on Him again and, as He usually did, He began teaching them again once more. Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked, " Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
He replied to them, "What did Moses command you?"
They said, "Moses permitted us to write divorce papers and send her away."
But Jesus told them, "He wrote this command for you because of your hardness of heart. 'But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.'
So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate."
Now in the house the disciples questioned Him again about this matter. And He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. Also, if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery." Mark 10:1-12

In today's church, hardness of heart exists. Years of frustration in attempts to fashion husbands and wives to your own ideas breeds hardness of heart. As we abuse one another in our attempts to be God we wonder why we are unloved. 'You don't love me anymore,' becomes the catch cry, or ' you have failed to fulfill me.'

Ha! We are definitely missing something. There is only one God and judge, He does not even place such expectations on us. How cruel we can be.

No one is responsible for making you happy, well there is, it is you alone. But apart from that, expecting others to make you happy is crazy. We opt out of our own responsibility and push it onto others. Wrong!

Jesu spoke about a mystery tht the listeners failed to grasp. Marriage is blessed by God and gives those married the ability to become one, instead of two.

Divorce attempts to rip one into two again. Not a good look. Much pain, anger, grief is created. Amen!

We have too many reasons why divorce is right and according to Jesus adultery is the only one given. We, just like the Pharisees, have created many more. However, Jesus goes to the heart of the matter: hardness of heart.

Do we embrace truth or create our own?
