Do Not Fear Only Believe

And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet and implored him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay you hands on her, so that she may be made well and live." And he went with him.

While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?" But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not fear, only believe." Mark 5:21-24; 35,36

Jairus was in fear of losing his daughter to sickness and begged Jesus to go with him to minister to her. Jesus agreed and was on his way when he was interrupted by another seeking healing. As they were about to move on word came that his daughter was dead. Jesus' reply is interesting, he could have said "She is only asleep," As he has said about another young girl but instead he said, "Do not fear, only believe.

Sickness carries fear, especially serious illnesses such as cancer because the record at defeating it has not been sure. Even the common cold can sneak up on us and we lay down and yield by saying, "Oh! I feel so bad I have a cold." Other things carry a fear, financial ruin, relational breakups, car accidents and on and on it goes. (poor me!!)What we fear has a habit of turning up. I read somewhere that when we fully understand how much we are loved we do not succumb to fear as much. Scripture tells us, perfect love casts out fear.

Here, Jairus was faced with perfect loved and invited to allow him to be Lord over his daughter's life. Jairus agreed and received his daughter back in perfect health.

Continually I am faced with perfect love that wishes to defeat all my fears. Choice is constant. Amen!
