Fasting
Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. People came and asked Him, "Why do John's disciples and the Pharisee's disciples fast, but your disciples do not fast?"
Jesus said, "The wedding guests cannot fast while the groom is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast. But the time is coming when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. Mark 2:18-20
The Pharisees fasted on Mondays and Thursdays as an act of piety. It is interesting that John's disciples were still unconvinced He was the One John proclaimed and therefore not one of His disciples. It is also interesting that they stayed with religious traditions, very interesting.
How did they not know Jesus was the one? Was it because John himself questioned Jesus' behaviour because he had a pre-conceived idea on how the Saviour must act?
Do I box my Lord? Do I demand He behave a certain way? and in the process retain religious traditions? I pray not!
