Healing the Sick
While He was reclining g at the table in Levi's house, many tax collectors and sinners were also guests with Jesus and His disciples, because there were many who were following Him. When the scribes and Pharisees saw that He was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked His disciples, "Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
When Jesus heard this, He told them, "Those who are well don't need a doctor, but the sick do need one. I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners." Mark 2:15-17
Levi would not know any 'righteous' people, according to the opinion of Scribes and Pharisees. He invited his friends and colleagues. Jesus was happy to be with them because He wa happy to be with people who understood their need.
If we had a party and invited Jesus I wonder who He would hang out with? What sort of people would we invite? Churchy people only? Or neighbors and work colleagues? I prefer non-churches people myself. I enjoy looking for the ones who my God is ministering to. I love to watch Him work.
If we knew we were spiritual doctors and that our job was to heal people then surely we would go out to where the sick were and not stay where all the 'well people' were!
Guess what? We are just that! Amen!
