My King

Many people spread their robes on the road, and others spread leafy branches cut from the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed kept shouting:
'Hosanna!
He who comes in the name of The Lord is the blessed One!
The coming kingdom of our father David is blessed!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!
Mark 11:8-10

Robes and leafy branches were traditionally spread across the road to receive a king.
The crowd's shouts were recitations from Psalm 118:25,26, the last of the Hallel Psalms sung at Passover.
Hosanna is Hebrew for save us.

The crowd believed Jesus to be the prophesied king. When He was crucified they would have been greatly distressed as they expected Him to be their deliverer.

The disciples were struggling with the teaching Jesus had given them about being handed over to be crucified and the resurrection from the dead did not compute.

What do I expect Jesus to be for me? A good luck genie? A harsh disciplinarian?
A Saviour? My Lord?

Jesus was and still is more than anything I can nominate. He is lover, friend, Saviour, Lord, provider, counsellor and more. I cannot box Him, I must release Him. Amen!
