Our God is Hungry
The next day when they came out from Bethany, He was hungry. After seeing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, He went to find our if there was anything on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. He said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again!" And His disciples heard it. Mark 11:12-14
At first glance we may think it is unfair that Jesus cursed the fig tree, as it was not the season for figs. However, it should have had edible buds on it and there was nothing but leaves.
I want my Lord to come at any time and find edible buds on my tree, if not fruit. If I am connected to the vine and His life flows through me then I cannot help but produce fruit.
Last night I ended up in emergency with chest pain. I was not peturbed but wonder what my mission was. It was not all about me, it was about lost people. All the tests were clear and I am fit(ish). Yet there was a nurse who needed a friend and a doctor who needed loving encouragement. Life in ER is tough and these people needed life.
I had about four hours of interrupted sleep and had to go to work for a meeting. I know it is important tht I am kinder to myself but the tension I have is living out of my faith and not my fear.
My meeting was important because my team are important. They are life to me. Afterwards I came home to rest.
While trying to sleep in ER there was a man in the next booth who had his daughter there with him and they were chatting away, keeping me awake. However, I knew they were bonding in a way that perhaps they never had and I could not begrudge them this opportunity, so I kept it sweet and prayed for rest. I am amazed how my God keeps me in times of little sleep. He is good. Amen!
Our God is hungry for lost souls, may we not disappoint Him. Amen!
