Power and Authority

Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes. As soon as He got out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs and met Him. He live in the tombs. No one was able to restrain him anymore- even with chains- because he often had been bound and shackled with chains, but he had snapped off te chains and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him. And always, night and day, he was crying out in the tombs and in te mountains an cutting himself with stones.
When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before Him, and he cried out with a loud voice, "what do you have to do with me, Jesus, Son of God, don't torment me!" For He had told him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!"
What is your name?" He asked him.
"My name is Legion," he answered Him, "because we are many." And he kept begging Him not to send them out of the region.
Now a large herd of pigs was there, feedin on the hillside. The demons begged Him, "Send us to the pigs, so we may enter them." And He have them permission. Then the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs, and re heed if about 2,000 rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned there. Mark 5:1-13

The disciples thought of Jesus as a teacher. They were about to have a spiritual encounter. Jesus took on 2,000 demons and won. This was 'Nightmare on Elm Street' stuff (not that I have watched the movie). The whole region was troubled by this demoniac and had been unsuccessful in controlling him.

Imagine why sort of life this man must have had to be filled with so many demons. How was he raised, mistreated, abused?

What a horrible, pitiful life and yet Jesus took a boat trip to find the man and set him free.

This Jesus is showing the power and compassion of the Father. Jesus said He only did what He saw His Father do and here He was in demon territory setting a man free.

The disciples were seeing power personified and learning this was no ordinary teacher but the Measiah Himself. In the process they were learning about walking in the anointing. They would soon have the opportunity to walk in His shoes.

Jesus wants to take us places we never dreamed of going in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. He has a job for us to complete and it will open the floodgate of the Kingdom of God. Amen!
