Here Comes the Judge

The Israelites did what was evil in the Lord's sight; they forgot the Lird their God and worshipped the Baals and the Asherahs. The Lord's anger burned against Israel, and He sold them to Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram-nagar aim, and the Israelites served him eight years.

The the Israelites cried out to The Lord. So The Lord raised up Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's youngest brother, as a deliverer to save the Israelites. The spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel. Othniel went out to battle, and The Lord handed over Cushan-rishathaim, king of Aram to him, so that Othniel overpowered him. Then the land was peaceful 40 years, and Othniel son of Kenaz died. Judges 2:7-11

The Judge was a fierce leader, wise and strong in warfare. They heard from the Lord  and brought the people together. They settled disputes.

What is the calling of a Christian? To be salt and light. What does salt do? Purifies, flavours, cleanses, preserves. What does light do? It dispels the darkness, shows the way, leads, brightens atmospheres.

Sounds like a huge task! Right? We don't need to rely on our own abilities, wisdom or strength. Our strength comes from The Lord. They that wait on The Lord shall renew their strength. So, suddenly easy! Yes?

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
