But Gideon said to them, "I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you; The Lord will rule over you." Judges 8:22,23
The Israelites were offering Gideon a dynastic line, they did not say, 'king' but their offering was of that office. Gideon failed to deny the assertion that he delivered the Israelites and he went on the ask for a gold erring from everyone. He melted the gold and made an idol, a gold ephod. This became a snare to the Israelites. However, God gave them peace whilst Gideon lived.
God was gracious. He chose Gideon, knowing full well his future. Why did he do that? Why did he chose Judas? Why did he chose King Saul? Some things defy our logic but He has a plan.
Gideon's times of lowliness were his greatest, once he had won the victory Gideon slid backwards.
What lessons can we learn from Gideon? Stay humble? Remember who is God! Don't let victory go to your head.
One of Gideon's sons killed all of his brothers after his father's death so he could rule. What sort of witness is that?
