When I was a son with my father, tender and precious to my mother, he taught me and said:
"Your heart must hold on to my words. Keep my commands and live. Get wisdom, get understanding; don't forget or turn away from the words of my mouth. Don't abandon wisdom, and she will watch over you; love her and she will guard you. Wisdom is supreme-so get wisdom. and whatever else you get, get understanding. Cherish her and she will exalt you; if you embrace her she will honour you. She will place a garland of grace on your head; she will give you a crown of beauty. Proverbs 4:3-9
In 1 Kings 3 we see Solomon we see in verse 5 God come to Solomon in a dream and ask him what he wanted God to do for him. Solomon asks: 'give your servant an obedient heart to judge your and to discern between good and evil.' In other words Solomon asked for wisdom. He had heeded King David when he was told to seek wisdom and understanding.
Solomon was the wisest man that ever lived in all areas but his personal life. He loved women more than God and was polluted by their idolatry. Perhaps if he had given his heart to the source of wisdom he would have been safer.
Wisdom is found in the Lord. Jesus said, when He left the earth, He was sending a counsellor, a helper. The Holy Spirit comes to abide inside every believer and in Him is all the wisdom of the godhead.
Trusting the Lord with all my heart and seeking Him first in all things brings wisdom, and in fact is the highest source of wisdom. Better still, His presence is the best place to find wisdom. Wisdom in itself, devoid of the presence of God, is a shadow of all God is.
