Peter knew his time to die was at hand, the Lord had shown him. Yet here he was writing, one last time, to encourage the church.
Peter talks of his body as being like a tent. That is a good analogy as we are too precious about our bodies at times. A tent is something we go in and out of without attachment. Our spirit man is the important part as this is the eternal us. Our 'tent' will die and crumble yet our spirits will live forever.
As caring for our tent is important otherwise it will leak, succumb to the storm and our stays will tear. I remember being caught in a storm, my tent was lifted up and the rain came in, I was saturated. When a storm is imminent we should give extra security to our tents, have a strategy and others who can help us. I was fortunate I had a friend who came to my aid. I learned a lot out of that storm.
Storms in life are good for us, we learn diligence, care, strategy, maintenance. All this is very important.
Today we had a heat wave in my city, 41o. I spent most of the day inside in the air conditioning and as soon as the sun began to set I raced out, mowed the lawns, washed the car and watered the garden. We must understand weather, metaphorically speaking, and when to act. This is an important part of our Christian life.
