I wonder has anything changed? Well, we don't have an Emperor in Australia. We have a democratically elected government, but does that mean because I voted for them they do my bidding? Does it mean that I do not need to obey them or the laws they create?
I don't think Peter would agree with the decision to rubbish a government just because we were given the right to vote. I thInk respect goes a long way.
What does God say: honour your leaders. Whether I vote them in or not I should pray for my government and trust the Lord to use them for my betterment. I did not choose my parents but I honour them. I do not choose my teachers, employers always. I might choose to work in a certain place but management choose my superiors.
Why should I respect my leaders? The apostle Paul tells us in Romans to respect our government in Romans chapter 13:1-7. In verse 5 he says: therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath, but also because of your conscience.
God has a plan and He puts people into places, we should honour Him and make room for Him in all who are above us, trusting Him to use them for our protection and good. Amen!
The bottom line is we should be doing good. This entails respecting those who we should respect. Good behaviour is noticed. Amen!
