Many do not know a father in Christ, perhaps because they have not experienced such a person and therefore assume all are teachers. A father takes keen interest, showers love and lives and breathes for them. Those of us who have been parents need only remember the times when our children were little. How we were smitten by them, loved them and doted on them. Compared to how we were disposed to the children next door or in our street.
I remember not having much patience with others children, until I had my own. Our Heavenly Father has a Son, He qualifies for parenthood. A Father in Christ has such a heart. He is not just a preacher, or a teacher, but goes the extra mile for his flock.
Paul was saying he was such a man, compared to those who were causing trouble for the flock by teaching doctrine that would cause the flock to stumble.
I had a Father in Christ, PB (Pastor Bill Beard). He has since gone on to be with the Lord. Another was Pastor Hal Oxley. What a lovely old man. Last time I saw him he was going blind, but his love was still switched on.
To be remembered as such people is an honour I aspire to. In my business I parent my staff, teaching them about attitude, encouraging them to aspire to greater attitudes, great work, treating others fairly and loving their clients. I am constantly encouraging them, I see what they can be, not what they are.
Lastly Paul encourages the Corinthians to imitate him. He was confident that his behaviour could be copied and lead to success. Can you say this? I am constantly mindful of my behaviour and want to be a living example to those in my world. Amen!
