Run from sexual immorality! Every sin a person can commit is outside the body. On the contrary, the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body. Don't you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body. 1 Cor 6:18-20
Paul now gets to the heart of the matter. Up to this point he has dealt with the reason such behaviour could exist: fleshly attitudes and conduct. Now he starts to deal with sin in the midst of the congregation.
When we begin to walk in the flesh, all manner of evil waits to snare us. If we are inflated with pride and boast we are about to fall. The Corinthian church, in their arrogance and pride have condoned sexual immorality. Corinth is a city steeped in sexual immorality, it's pagan temple worships its god's through prostitution. Immorality creeps into the church when we condone sin and become proud and puffed up.
Sexual sin stains our temple where the Holy Spirit dwells. Sexual sin carries a huge price: infections, death, impure spirits. Our lust for 'feeling good' carries a huge penalty.
How do we keep pure? Walk humbly with our God. Humility saves us from many sins that pride will share us into. Amen!
