Sexual Purity

I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world. But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside? But God judges outsiders. Put away the evil person from among yourselves. 1Cor 5:9-13

I did some reading on the Internet about sexual impurity in the church and found it to be a serious problem. I found a good site written by a counsellor whose life work is in restoring sexual purity. He said that impurity can co-incide with theological understanding and belief because it comes from deception in the heart. A mistaken self-interst that justifies the sin. We are deceived when we think our needs are not being met and endeavour to make ourselves feel better by sexual sin.

So then the core problem is the spiritual impurity, our lack of spiritual virginity. We fail to allow the Lord to satisfy our deepest needs and therefore are unfaithful to him by our secret sin.

The author of the site I found most helpful can say it better than I. I suggest you visit:

We need to face our sin, the deceitful places of our heart and allow God in. Amen!
