True Perspective

Now, brothers, I have applied these things (4:1-5) to myself and to Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from the saying: 'Nothing beyond what is written.' The purpose is that none of you will be inflated with pride in favour of one person over another. For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you did not receive? If, in fact, if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you haven't received it?you are already full! You are already rich! You have begun to reign as kings without us- and I wish you did reign, so that we could also reign with you! 1Cor 4:6-8

Paul is having a go at the Corinthians so that they can see their foolishness. Paul, an apostle says of himself in verse 12: 'even now we are like the world's garbage, like dirt everyone scrapes off their sandals.'

Now today, Paul and Peter are heroes of faith but then Paul knew the struggle he went through to preach the gospel. We may feel very insignificant in our work but God has a plan. His centre stage is coming.

The Corinthians were being foolish, sitting around debating, as was their culture. By doing this they had made nothing out of the truth Paul and Peter were enduring for their sakes.

We need to remember the truth and not get caught up in senseless arguments about people and preferences. Amen! By doing this we make as nothing the sacrifice that the true heroes are making.
