River Giving
On that same day men were placed in charge of the rooms that housed the supplies, contributions, firstfruits, and tenths. The legally required portions for the priests and Levites were gathered from the village fields, because Judah was grateful to the priests and Levites who were serving. They performed the service of their God and the service of purification, along with the singers and gatekeepers, as David and his son Solomon had prescribed. For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there were leaders of the singers and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. So in the days of Zerubbabel and Nehemiah all Israel contributed to the daily portions for the singers and gatekeepers. They also set aside daily portions for the Levites, and the Levites set aside daily portions for the descendants of Aaron. Nehemiah 12:44-47
These people were in the flow, you could say the river. They had been taken through a process where that had come out from the world, their idolatry, and were persuing God's way. A result of chasing after God is a generous heart and a desire to honour those God has placed over us.
This month of February I have chased after God harder than ever before and my desire to give increased exponentially. God has taught me a new principle in giving and now I find myself in His river of grace, I love it! My giving has been to those who, in their secret hearts long for a place above what they experienced in childhood. Having experienced poverty leaves its mark and yet God knows how He wants to bless.
I was able to bless such a one and in it I experienced God's love for this person, oh how he wants to bless him and honour him, because he runs after his God. As I gave I was moved into a place where God answered a desire of my heart, to see my grandson on his birthday. Last week the Lord gave me a word about 'double' and I wondered what that would look like. Last night I discovered double and more than I had given was being given back to me. My son booked flights to Brisbane form me to babysit his tribe for the weekend. To say I was excited was an understatement. Woo Hoo!!!
Come play in the River! Amen!
