Building Houses, Building Lives
Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the river rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it did not collapse, because it's foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn't act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rains fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And it's collapse was great!" Matthew 7:24-27
All over the world we see natural disasters strike. Where houses are not built well and on good foundations they collapse and they then need to be rebuilt. In some cases, no matter what they are built of, they collapse because of the mangitude of the storm, earthquake or fire.
However, we understand this word picture. Now let's apply it to our lives. If I constantly hear the message about Christ and refuse to yield, there will come a day when all I know will be gone and I will stand naked before my judge. All I have built my life around is gone. When called to account for what I did with my life, if it is all gone what is the reward?
Self-righteousness built up by self-effort and self-justification will fall and shatter like glass. Then, I will know I have wasted the precious time given to me and then I will face an eternity without Him. You may say, "that won't matter, you will have your buddies, who needs Him anyway." If I am locked in solitary confinement I will not have anybody. My jailer will not be interested in my opinion. He would have used me to take me away from the best eternity I could ever know.
Arrogance and fury will not save me. I will be powerless to save myself.
Is this what I want? Really? NO!!!
How about you?
