Godly Principles
I assure you: whatever you bind on earth is already bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is already loosed in heaven. Matthew 18:18
This scripture flows on from verses 15-17 about correcting a brother who sins against you. Once you have tried to restore a relationship with a brother and fail and then take along two or three witnesses and if you then fail you take it to the church.
In this context if we do things God's way and follow the steps outlined then we are in fact attempting to loosen the offense of the believers. If we fail then the final act is to treat the offender like an outsider. This is God's way to attempting to shock the relationship into a right path.
In the parable about the son who wanted his inheritance and went off and squandered it, the godly principle was to restore once the son came to his senses. The Father did not run after his son, the son had to go and learn his lesson. Although the father looked daily for his son, he had to trust that he would come to his senses.
Jesus taught biblical principles and if we follow them we are following heavenly principles. They work!
