Lord of Glory
When Jesus entered Jerusalem the whole city was stirred and said, "Who is this?" And the crowd replied, "this is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee." Matthew 21:10,11
From what I can see, according to Matthew, this was the first time Jesus went to Jerusalem.
The crowd saw Jesus coming, riding on a donkey. They threw their cloaks down on the ground before Him. Thus when Jerusalem heard the commotion they wanted to know, "Who is this?"
Jesus did what He did to fulfil prophesy about Him. 'Say to you daughter, Zion, see your king comes to you gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, a foal of a donkey.'
The crowd called Him a prophet. They did not know who he was. Prophesy called Him their king.
There was only one group of people who knew who Jesus was. The disciples, and even they did not grasp all He was. Jesus alone knew who He was. Yet He submitted to doing what He did knowing the hearts of all that were around Him. Gentle, and riding on a donkey. No lord and master, there was no pomp or glory on earth but in heaven, well that was a different matter.
When the people who know celebrate, the crowd will not understand and how sad is their loss. How sad to miss the glorious coming. How sad to miss knowing such a wonderful Lord. There are times and places of glory, how good to be around when the Lord of Glory appears. Amen!
