A Unique God
Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites- no one leaving or entering. The Lord said to Joshua, "Look, I have handed Jericho, it's king, and it's fighting men over to you. March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry seven ram's horn trumpets in front of the ark. But on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the trumpets. When there is a prolonged blast of the horn and you hear it's sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the city wall will collapse, and the people will advance, each man straight ahead." Joshua 6:1-5
How weird the people of Jericho would have thought the Israelites, they probably wondered what sort of magic or witchcraft they practised. I am sure, on the seventh day, when the inhabitants of Jericho saw the Israelites March around seven times they knew something was up. Were they on the walls jeering or down below quaking in their boots, fearing the worst?
How does the world take the army of Christians who do not bow the knee to secularism? They attack, without effect. The army grows in numbers and pours out love instead of poison. I have watched the Hillsong Church in Australia be attacked in the media; again and again. It does not stop the church, in fact the church keep growing.
How would the Israelites feel? Foolish or favoured? How do we feel when directed by God to handle a situation differently to what the world expects?
I love my God for choosing unique ways to display His power and uniqueness. How good is He? No one can ever say He is predictable in problem solving. Yes His love is faithful, consistent and enduring. Yes His word never changes but His solutions are always different.
Do it again Lord! Amen!
