Being Trustworthy
So then my brothers, you are dearly loved and longed for- my joy and my crown.
In this manner stand firm in the Lord, dear friends. I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to agree in the Lord. Yes, I also ask you, true partner, to help these women who have contended for the gospel at my side, along with Clement and the rest of my coworkers whose names are in the book of life. Philippians 4:1-3
This church had a special place in Paul's heart. Some of them had worked alongside him in the ministry. They were his joy and his crown. So not only did they bring him joy but they were one of Paul's successes. What joy a group of people bring to your heart when they take a message, own it and grow with it. Paul is not needing to continually correct them and watch over them.
However, two women, Euodia and Syntyche seemed to be having difficulty, perhaps a clash of personality, who knows. Perhaps one was a Martha and the other a Mary.
What a joy it would be to go away and know that not only did they do the work of the ministry, they did it well and did not need constant monitoring.
I remember pastoring and in two churches we had times of uncertainity until good leaders were developed to the point of being such people. We could go away knowing all was well. What a restful feeling and most valued treasure.
Am I trustworthy? Can those who depend on me go away and know all will be well? I believe so. I am no longer a babe in Christ and I have no desire to usurp or destroy. The enemy comes to destroy, we don't need to be his tools. Amen!
