Letting God be God
Joshua got up early the next morning. The priests took the ark of the Lord, and the seven priests carrying seven trumpets marched in front of the ark of the Lord. While the trumpets were blowing, the armed troops went in front of them, and the rear guard went behind the ark of the Lord. On the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.
Early on the seventh day, they started at dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same way. That was the only day they marched around the city seven times. After the seventh time, the priests blew the trumpets, and Joshua said to the people, "Shout! For the Lord has given you the city."
Joshua 6:12-16
Note that Joshua got up early. I am sure there would have been many who could not sleep or did not sleep well. Myself, when I have a big event the next day, my sleep can be disturbed, sometimes because I need to pray and sometimes I just don't sleep well thinking about what is to happen. God was about to do sometime mighty.
Joshua followed the Lord's command to the letter. He instructed the people to do exactly what the Lord told him. On the seventh day things heated up. They marched seven times and when the trumpet sounded they shouted, then the walls fell down.
There has been a lot of speculation as to whether the marching and the shouting could have brought down the walls but I know God brought down the walls.
In my life I have to trust my God to bring down the walls. Being God is His job, not mine. There is nothing so clever in me or anyone else that can replace the hand of God. I am grateful I know Him and that He is willing to be God for me. I am safe knowing I do not have to be clever in my work or life. My only cleverness is in trusting the Lord and obeying His command.
I must worship the Lord and confess what He has done. Having Him in the midst of all that happens is all I need. Amen!
