The Lord in the Midst

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, "Are you for us or our enemies?"
"Neither," He replied. "I have now come as commander of the Lord's army."
Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him, "What does my Lord want to say to His servant?"
The commander of the Lord's army said to Joshua, "Remove your sandals from your feet for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so. Joshua 5:13-15

Joshua had a divine encounter. I wonder what he was doing near Jericho? Was he there to inspect it? Was he having time alone? God had promised to be with Joshua as he led His people and now he meets the Lord face to face. Just as Moses had to remove his sandals, so did Joshua. The ground in itself was not holy but was made holy by the presence of the Lord.

What an honour to have the Lord Himself turn up and want to spend time with you. This was an important time, a time of establishing the homeland for Israel, a time of establishing Joshua as leader and a time when God's people were to know His might and greatness.

For Joshua to have this divine encounter would encourage him in the method by which the Lord wanted to take the city. Joshua would have been tested as a soldier, he was used to a fight and what he was about to be asked to do would be very strange indeed.

I love the Lord for showing Himself this way and showing us His love for Joshua. Thank You Lord! Amend,
