The Prostitute
"Now please swear to me by the Lord that you will also show kindness to my family, because I showed kindness to you. Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father, mother, brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and save them from death." Joshua 2:12,13
Here was a heathen woman daring to believe in a God she did not know and trusting people she did not know for the sake of her family. Here was a prostitute who loved her family more than herself and was pleading for all their lives.
This woman had spunk, she had faith and boldness. She is daring to ask for all her family, all her relatives. These men could run her though with a sword and not do a deal. What authority did they have to do deals with the heathen? When they had gone what would prevent her family from being killed along with the rest? The Israelites did not know that God intended for the walls to fall down. How was Rahab's portion of the wall to still stand?
Yet the men would do a deal and tell they commander Joshua of the importance of such a deal. This woman was to be a part of the future of Jesus Christ, who would have thought that a heathen prostitute was so important to God, but He is not a discriminator as we are, He looks on the hearts, He sees what no man sees. How good is our God. He is to be trusted. Amen!
