Real Authority

Then they went to Capernum, and right away He entered the synagogue on the sabbath and began to teach. They were astonished at His teaching because, unlike the scribes, He was teaching them as one having authority.

Just then a man with an unclean spirit was in their synagogue. He cried out, "what have you to do with us, Jesus-Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!"

But Jesus rebuked him and said, "be quiet, and come out of him!" And the unclean spirit convulsed him, shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him. Mark 1:21-26

Jesus had just chosen 4 disciples, and chosen His headquarters-Capernum. This was where Andrew and Simon Peter came from. We know Peter was married, perhaps Jesus stayed with Peter.

The next day was the Sabbath. Jesus goes to the temple and begins to preach, like one who has authority, then He demonstrated His authority but casting out an unclean spirit.

It is interesting that the demon recognised him and knew why he had come, it knew it was on borrowed time.

What a declaration, what a beginning!

Jesus was not a normal scribe or teacher for that matter, He had authority, real authority. He still does! Amen!
