Who is a Sinner?

While He was reclining at the table in Levi's house, many tax collectors and sinners were also guests with Jesus and His disciples, because there were many who were following him. When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked His disciples, "Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
When Jesus heard this, He told them, "Those who are well do not need a doctor, but the sick do need one. I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners." Mark 2:15-17

Levi was considered a sinner by the Scribes and Pharisees, yet they displayed the common human problem, they failed to recognise their own hearts. They did not see that gluttony, mistreatment of their parents, self-righteousness, pride and arrogance were sins. They were actually displaying what a lot of modern people have, they had made themselves the judge of what was right and wrong.

Telling people they are sinners is offensive. There is only One who convicts of sin, the Holy Spirit. I know the two: when people try to convict me of sin I rebel, yet when the Holy Spirit convicts me, I repent.

The thing I have to guard is my own heart. I know that I may be misunderstood also because I stand up against abortion and the saying that God created people to be homosexual when He didn't. I believe the way they were treated by those who should have known better did the damage, but He made them male and female. The same goes for the transgender debate. I am sad for those who are so unhappy with being who they are that they change their image in a hope to fell whole. There is only One who can make me whole and I can trust Him.
