Why Are you Upset?
But some of the scribes were sitting there thinking to themselves: why does He speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
Right away Jesus understood in His Spirit that they were thinking like this like this within themselves and said to them, "Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? Mark 2:6-8
Why were the scribes thinking what they were thinking? Probably because Jesus confronted their beliefs, shattered their sacred held ideas about forgiveness. In their minds only God, Yahweh, could forgive. Never had they been taught that another minister could forgive. The way they earned forgivenesss was through sacrifice, the self-effort to appease a righteous God.
Have you been shattered lately? When I first became a Christian music was changing from a single organ to a band with drums. There were those who opposed the use of drums in church. For me as a young Christian, I loved the music. Then later when churches moved away from singing choruses that were based on small portions of scripture, well that was the beginning of the end.
Allowing the Holy Spirit to move in a service without endeavouring to control the crowd, well now, there is a challenge. The challenge is to allow the Holy Spirit to move and also keep the silly folk who would misbehave anyway, in check.
Our God will break down our attitudes and walls. He wants us free and open to Him.
Seeking Him without our paremeters and pre-conceived idea on how He will move helps. As I seek Him, I find Him. He is worth seeking. Amen!
We are so quick to stamp our own ideas on a matter. Not me, but He!
