A Day of Accounting
He also said in His teaching, "Beware of the scribes, who want to go around in long robes, and who want greetings in the marketplaces, the front seats in the synagogues, and the places of honour at banquets. They devour widows houses and say long prayers just for show. These will receive the harsher punishment. Mark 12:38-40
I think that the honour that the scribes now insist on was once given out of courtesy but over time it became expected and with the expectation came the belief that they could do as they please and take what they want. Now they were not respected but despised. Their behaviour now causing ridicule for their position that was once honoured. Along with the ridicule would be the loss of respect for what they purported to represent, the Scriptures. How sad!
When ministry mistakenly believe things about themselves and their position and believe, falsely that God would endorse them, this is a sad day indeed.
Just the same, anyone in authority can come to believe themselves apart form the law. We now are seeing how men in authority have abused women and children for their own end, because they believed they could and appeared to get away with it.
We are seeing famous, well respected men going down, late in life, for their sins. How sad!
Yet God sees and although it appears the day of accountability seems delay, it come! Eternity is a very long time and the decisions we make and the choices we make are either laying a foundation for our destruction or our honour. Both are real and both are available. Choose wisely! Amen!
