Raising Children

But whoever causes the downfall of one of these little ones who believe in Me- it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. Mark 9:42

Being a grandparent I see the importance of what I subject my grandchildren to, what I allow, and what I fail to act on. My grandchildren are being raised to know the Lord, I cannot compromise their learning with fleshly or rebellious ways. Likewise I must speak when they try on bad behaviour.

I cannot expect that children will survive my slackness or misconduct. Children are to be nurtured and raised to love and cherish life and others. Children's minds are malleable and I must be aware of this fact in all I do.

In verse 36 Jesus took a child and placed him in their midst. He was teaching on servant hood. Some think the words 'little ones' could refer to new believers but I think, here, He is taking about children.

Proverbs says 'raise up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.'

We have a God-given accountability for our children.
