Who Will be First?
Peter began to tell Him, "Look, we have left everything and followed You."
"I assure you," Jesus said, "there is no one who has left house, brothers or sisters, mother or father, children or fields because of Me and the gospel, who will not receive 100 times more, now at this time-houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions- and eternal life in the age to come. But many who are first will be last, and the last first." Mark 10:28-31
Peter is again the spokesman. In his humble opinion they all had fulfilled the criteria. I wonder what he expected in return. Jesus goes on the say that they will receive more in this life, with persecutions. Mm! I wonder if that is what they wanted to hear, or what Peter wanted to hear. They were continually jostling for first place amongst themselves.
My consolation is that in eternity I will have more, without persecutions. I think I will hang out for that.
Many who jostle to be noticed and to be given positions of honour here may find that it did them no favours there. The first here may well be the last there. Jesus Himself had no problem humbling Himself like a servant to wash the disciples feet.
What is all the fuss about anyway?
