Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, nor greedy for money, holding the mystery of faith with a clear conscience.mand they must be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons. Wives, too, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything. Deacons must be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their household competently. For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves, and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 1 Tim 3:8-13

Deacons serve in church. Not all churches still carry the label but there are still teams of those who serve. Deacons do not teach, they may be able to but the office is one of servant hood. I have been a pastor, but currently work as a servant. I have run DivorceCare courses which themselves teach people but my love for people has me serve. At work I am an apostle of sorts as I am pioneering and shepherding my team. I suppose the ex-pastor is shepherding in business, as I am sure many do.

We have a women's conference coming up and I have been asked if, in one session, I operate in the prophetic, should be interesting. I loved waiting on God for His word for people when I was pastoring and now I will be serving in that capacity.

It is important that we are not fixated on a label or an office. Allow God to be God and build His church how He wants. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
