The Path I am On
Paul, a slave of God and apostle of Jesus Christ, to build up the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness, in the hope of eternal life that God, who cannot lie, promised before times began.
In His own time He has revealed His message in the proclamation that I was entrusted with by the command of God our Saviour. Titus 1:1-3
The word slave is one Payl uses, it has a stronger meaning than servant. In the era we now live in slavery is rampant and so is the move to set slaves free. Innocent people become slaves mainly out of their own naievity and the abuse of those who know better. However, in the times of Paul and before, families or individuals who were in debt, would willing submit themselves to slavery in an effort to pay their debt.
Paul knew his debt. He knew his sin.
Yet God in His mercy saved Paul from the path of destruction and therefore Paul willingly gave his life to the work of the cross. He who is forgiven much, loves much.
Paul says he was also an apostle of Jesus Christ. He went out and established churches and put good men in place to govern these churches and then continued his relationship with them through his letters. One of which we are now reading.
The book of Titus is another such letter to Titus, just as were the letters to Timothy.
As I read the above verses I am encouraged to be a slave to all that is godly, rather anything that is ungodly. Paul's example inspires and encourages.
I must lay aside everything that will trip me up: all attitude, unbelief, sin. I have a race to run and I must run that race. I am not my own, I was bought with a price. I suppose you could say I am also a slave of Christ. Amen!
