What is the Reason to Suffering?

Keep your attention on Jesus Christ as risen from the dead and descended from David. This is according to my gospel. I suffer for it to the point of being bound like a criminal, but God's message is not bound. This is why I endure all things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 2 Tim 2:8-10

Jesus endured the cross to obtain a re-connection with the Father for us. He suffered horribly, but triumphed. Paul is telling Timothy he himself is willing to suffer for the sake of the elect, those that are faithful, those who believe. Paul's second imprisonmet was not like the first. The first was house arrest. The second, he was in chains in a horrible dungeon-like cell. At this time many deserted him. This was nothing new, Jesus had many desert Him.

Why did Jesus suffer? For our eternal life. Why did Paul suffer? So that we may also obtain salvation. A common thread! Why do others suffer? Because they have a hope in the One who has gone before.

Why will I stay faithful and endure? For the ones who come behind: my children, their children and their children. I must leave an inheritance of godliness, faithfulness.

This life is not about my happiness. I can have all that money can buy and still be unhappy. Yet there is joy, wonderful joy in Him, that no man can take away. He is my everything! Amen!
