Losing the Blessing

And make sure there isn't any irreverent person like Esau, who sold his birthright in exchange for one meal. For we know later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected because he didn't find the opportunity for repentance, though he sought it with tears. Hebrews 12:16,17

We read the story of Esau and Jacob in Genesis 25:33. We see there that just as Hebrews says, Esau did not care for his birthright, until it was important to him. Having a birthright brings responsibility, a certain level of behaviour modifications, but Esau was not prepared to adapt or change, he lived for his sensual appetites, not for honour, His God or his family. His father loved him, yet Esau despised his position.

However, Jacob cherished the idea of birthright, to him it was everything, he was willing to deceive to obtain blessing. Granted he was resorting to his own ability and strength instead of trusting the Lord, but God met him and he changed.

As Christians we have a  birthright, as a child of God, His Spirit dwells within us, we are blessed with all manner of spiritual blessings but we can despise them by living for fleshly appetites. Should we tread on what has been given we separate ourselves and enter the dry places, outside the the will of God.

It is important that we see ourselves as God sees us and live in His will and blessing. Amen!
