No Turning Back

For it is impossible to renew to repentance those who were once enlightened, who tasted the heavenly gift, became companions with the Holy Spirit, tasted God's good word and the powers of the coming age, and who have fallen away, because, to their own harm, they are recrucifying the Son of God and holding Him up to contempt. For ground that has drunk the rain that has often fallen on it and that produces vegetation useful to those it is cultivated for receives a blessing from God. But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and about to be cursed, and will even be burned in the end.
Even though we are speaking this way, dear friends, in your case we are confident of the better things connected with salvation. Hebrews 6:6-9

I have noticed that the tense of the speaker(s) is plural. The writing appears to be by more than one person. The use of 'we' occurs in verses 5:11; 6:9. Perhaps this book was written by the governing apostles?? I love a mystery!

Next, there is great debate as to the intention of the above passages, as to who it was referring to and the tense it was written in. To me it does not matter. It carries a warning. I know with God, all things are possible, but if I chose to go back to my former ways of believing, in this case it was probably Judaism, then I am denying the power of the cross, and risk losing eternal life.

I have seen the Holy Spirit bring backsliders back to repentance but without His intervention, and in this case, apostasy, there is no hope. To have tasted the best of salvation and then to choose to deny Christ, what an eternal loss, how could I entertain such a move?

Having come to Christ, I cannot go back, I will not go back. Amen!
