The New and Living Way

For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm, to the blast of a trumpet, and the sound of words. (Mt Sinai) .
Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the Living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels in festive gathering, to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written in heaven, to God who is the judge of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect, to Jesus ( mediator of a new covenant), and to the sprinkled blood, which says better things than the blood of Abel. Hebrews 12:18-28

The Hebrews would understand this comparison, they lived and breathed the Old Testament but now they are being presented with the New, Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

We may, or may not, have been raised in church. I grew up in a Catholic household and attended mass regularly. I knew the 10 commandments and continually strived to fulfil them, constantly falling on my face in failure. Last night at connect group we were asked if before salvation any of us knew we needed a saviour, I did. I knew I was a miserable sinner and longed to know God.

Coming to know Jesus was coming into the light, being able to see and understand the scriptures, to know His love for me. I knew I was free, found and loved.

The harshness of living under an Old Testament type of relationship to now living in a New Testament relationship and knowing I am loved are stark in comparison. I am at rest, loved and enjoyed.

This morning after my walk I watered my garden and had to stake my Rosemary bush, I can still smell it on me, it reminds me of the Catholic Church. Certain smells remind us of experiences and Rosemary reminds me of the past. The smell clings, much like old experiences cling until completely washed away by being in relationship with the new. Some take a while, they are so ingrained and a part of us, but if we soak, marinate, in Him, it will leave. Amen!

He is my deliverer, my freedom, my completeness, my wholeness. Amen!
