The Light Has Come
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. You have enlarged the nation and increased its joy. The people have rejoiced before you as they rejoiced at harvest time and as they rejoice when dividing spoils. For You have shattered their oppressive yolk and the rod of their shoulders, the staff of their oppressor, just as You did on the day of Midian. For the trampling boot of battle and the bloodied garments of war will be burned as fuel for the fire.
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. The dominion will be vast, and it's prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The Zeal of the Lord of Host will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:2-7
I love it when Isaiah bursts forth into prophesy. He does it so well! Some commentators think this refers to a future king, Hezekiah or Josiah but the prophesy is potent with divine promise. To me it points to Jesus. The words: Mighty God, Wonderful Counsellor, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace are titles not worthy of a human king.
This is the promise kingly return of Christ, tied to His first coming. I can understand how Israel expected the Son who was to be born to become the King. Yet in the prophesy, for me, I see the two comings. Jesus as born into our world, a world of bloodshed and was killed in bloodshed only to rise again. His resurrection is the beginning of the end. Having paid for our redemption He ascended to the Father to wait for the fulfilment of time, to return again to rule and reign for 1000 years, from Israel.
I have been studying the prophesy around the return of Christ to rule and defeat Israel's enemies, found in Ezekiel 38, 39 and that prophesy, tied to this give us the picture of the kingly Christ ruling on earth. Oh what a day!
However, right now, we are living in the time when salvation has come, the light has come and many are turning from darkness to light. My mandate it to 'hand out torches,' turn on the light for those living in darkness. May this mandate consume me. Amen!
