Wine and Foolishness
Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine, and are fearless at mixing beer, who acquit the guilty for a bribe and deprive the innocent of justice. Isaiah 5:22,23
Alcohol deprives us of commonsense let alone wisdom. Alcohol makes people lazy, careless, greedy, lustful. Alcohol releases all the flesh. We say and do things that restraint would prevent us from doing.
To be able to drink in moderation requires restraint and self-control. Yet even the prudent speak more loosely under the influence of wine. Have you ever been the non-drinker and been surprised at the behaviour of those who are drinking? Put yourself in the picture and decide if this is how you want to be seen.
Wine cheats the innocent of justice, under the influence flattery seeks an avenue to bring about an end not good for others. Who is in charge?
I see youth boasting about mixing drinks and ability to drink excessive amounts and this is only foolishness. Who are they impressing?
What is important to the Lord? What would He have me do? Who will I affect by what I do?
