A Far Greater Purpose

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. The first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town.
And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, in Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. While they were there it came time for her to give birth. Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough- because there was no room for them at the lodging place. Luke 2:1-7

While the whole world spins on an agenda that it considers more important, our God arrives in humble beginnings. Caesar Agustus was the ruler and considered more important than an infant of obscure beginnings in an out of the way place called Bethlehem. Caesar wanted to know who he had and how many, his purpose was to the empire far more important. Yet into this mix came our saviour, who would be one far more important and of much greater significance than the Caesar.

We cannot judge with our eyes. The Spirit of God has a purpose and is far greater. Today our world is wasting money on gifts for people, most of whom they don't really care for, because an annual ritual demands they do so. Yet, today we celebrate the coming of the One who rivals all gift, who offers eternal life. Today we can quietly celebrate His birth, our Father's greatest gift and be grateful for His coming.

I for one am so grateful. I know what life was like without Him and today I know the hope and future I have. As the Angels said: "All glory to God in the highest heaven and peace on earth to people He favours." I wish you Him, I wish you eternal life and lastly I wish you peace. Amen! Happy Christmas!
