Impressing Who?
In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the Christian message, they may be won over without a message by the way their wives live when they observe your pure, reverent lives. Your beauty should not consist of outward things like elaborate hair-styles and the wearing of gold ornaments or fine clothes. Instead, it should consist of what is inside the heart with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very valuable in God's eyes. 1 Peter 3:1-4
We can see from this passage that God values gentleness and quietness. Loud, crass conversation and use of bad language, bullying, arrogance, primping, mincing, and all forms of affectation are grossly offensive to our God. Who do we seek approval from?
We all have a neighbours who are expecting visitors and the effort to impress are enormous: new balcony, new garden walls, immaculate gardens and flowers, cooking, cleaning. It is exhausting to watch. We are going to have Christmas carols tonight and the thought tires them. They may have impressed people who really don't care about them, but they do not want to give the One who truely loves them the time of day.
The One who loves me is worth courting. I am now on holidays and He is here. I love the peace, the serenity, the quiet. Ah!!! I sit with Him and enjoy what He has given me with a grateful heart. He is good!
