Beatitudes
Then looking up at His disciples, He said:
"you who are poor are blessed,
Because the kingdom of God is yours.
You who are now hungry are blessed,
Because you will be filled.
You who now weep are blessed,
Because you will laugh.
You are blessed when people hate you,
When they exclude you, insult you,
And slander your name as evil because of the Son of Amn.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! Take note- your reward is great in heaven, for this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets." Luke 6:20-23
In Matthew it is recorded that Jesus used the words: poor in spirit, and hunger and thirst after righteousness. The gentle are added in Matthew, as are the merciful, the pure in heart and the peacemakers. See Matthew 5:3-10
What was Jesus doing? Gently He was pulling them apart, like you do an orange, lovingly and deliberately so that they could learn a new truth, the truth of the kingdom of God. If we are really to be palatable to this world we live in we need to absorb these teaching and allow them to become a part of us. Well, really, I should say we become a part of them.
We the church need to come aside, and take time, out of routine and agendas, to sit in the still quiet and listen to these truths. The Spirti fo God can so change us we are a pleasure to be around. Now, there's a thought! When I don't take time I can be irritable and cranky, who wants to be near that?
Spending time gives Godly answers to pressing issues. I thought I would have one today and it evaporated before my eyes. My God is going before me. Life is so much better when He is driving. Amen!
