Cities Doomed

"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you Bethesdia! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes!" But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will go down to Hades! Whoever listens to you listens to Me. Whoever rejects you rejects Me. And whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me." Luke 10:13-16

Jesus had just commissioned the 70 disciples and instructed them how to behave when they were received and when rejected. Chorazin and Bethesdia were cities near Capernaum where He spent most of His time ministering. It is surprising that Jesus spoke thus about Capernaum, considering the miracles done there. However, here we are learning a lesson:

God's standards and ways of thinking are not ours. When He looks at a city and how it responds to Him He sees whether there is arrogance and self-pride at the core or humility. Although He had spent most of His time in Capernaum there was still an arrogant core (will you be exalted to the heavens?) Jesus, mere, is speaking judgement on these cities. It is shocking but true that the God of grace and mercy would say such things. This is a reality check.

I am praying for my city, how about you? How is God going to break through unless we pray as intercessors for our cities and towns. I have read of cities turning to Christ, let's see a tide of souls come into the kingdom. Amen!
