Fickle Pickles
To what then should I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to each other:
"We played the flute for you, but you didn't dance; we sang a lament, and you did not weep!
For John the Baptist did not come eating bread or drinking wine, and you say, "He has a demon!" The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children." Luke 7:31-35
Jesus is telling us about the hardness of our heart here. If we have a religious bent we are inclined to be judgemental and the centre of our judgement is ourselves. We establish ourselves as God and all things filter through us. Someone who is aesthetic we consider weird and someone who is free we consider a sinner. Why I am just right I am, I am. Ha ha!
The above scripture points out how fickle this judgement is. This person is neither happy by a cheerful tune nor touched by a mournful song, what a grumble bum!
We are about to experience the Country Music festival here in Tamworth. Many of the locals leave town, they don't like the sound. Retail providers rub their hands with glee, especially restaurants and take-a-way food outlets. The council groans with the workload of providing space, facilities and picking up the litter. But, for the visitors, they have a feast of music, they love the stuff. For the locals who embrace the festival, a good time is to be had. I am usually away on conference or visiting my son who has a birthday. My office may be difficult to get into as council will be using the Skate Park opposite for campers. Mm I might just go out of town!
It is unfortunate that when it comes to the source of eternal life we are fickle and yet this is one thing we cannot get wrong. Eternity goes on forever and ever. I want to be where He is, forever. He has plans for me that eclipse anything I could plot or plan. Nothing I can imagine will come near His plans for me.
I want to be positioned int the right place for the very best my God has to offer, right now as well. He is worthy and so amazing, what could be better than what He has for me? As I study the gospels I see a free, lovely man worth my attention. He is no religious nut! Take another look! Amen!
