Following Jesus

As they were travelling on the road someone said, "I will follow You wherever you go!" Jesus replied to him, "Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head." The to another He said, "Follow Me."
"Lord," he said, let me first go bury my father."
But He said to him, "Le there dead bury their own dead, but you go and spread the news of the kingdom of God."
Another also said, "I will follow You, Lord, let me first go say goodbye to those at my house."
But Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." Luke 9:57-62

These people were not wanting to do a quick goodbye, they were throwing up delay tactics. It is like us saying, "Not yet Lord, let me finish my working life then I will go and spread your word." We can be so entangled in the affairs of men that we fail to start the affairs of God. What is He saying, what is He asking of you?

We need to determine what God wants and then do it. It is not what society needs, or a failed life here so I will give myself to the missions either. I wanted to go to the missions field after a failed amrriage and the Lord said to me, "Stop running away!" It is much harder to stay and work through life and the problems that arise but still be faithful to the kingdom of God.

However, I have a dear friend who did go to the missions field and she is still there some 27 years later. I am proud of her and what she has accomplished. She is a single lady who has given her life to God.

The question remains: what does Jesus want you to do? Then do it!
