Great Power
After coming down with them, He stood on a level place with a large crowd of His disciples and a great number of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and from the sea last of Tyre and Sidon. They came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those tormented by unclean spirits were made well. The whole crowd was trying to touch Him, because power was coming out from Him and healing them all. Luke 6:17-19
Jesus was prepared, He had spent the night in prayer on the mountain. He was filled to the brim with the Holy Spirit and power. The crowd consisted of disciples, Jews and Gentiles.
I know that if I heard Jesus was nearby, I would be there. I love being where He is. I especially love being prepared for where He is and what He brings to me.
Last night I had my Chinese visitors, they were very impressed that I still had my 84 year old mother and that she still drove a car. We made pizza together, Alice's mother handles pastry well and brought me more of her beautiful cooking. I am compelled to love these people, I gave Alice one of my paintings, which she loved. Her parents brought my mother a gift of a beautiful woollen wrap, what delightful people. I am painfully aware that I need something they have, simplicity. I have the gratitude but they have it in spades. I am sure they see in me something as well.
We can't just bring our own niceness to people, we must bring Christ. The night before the dinner I was awake in the night praying for these people. I trust God to use me. The sweetness of the Holy Spirit is more satisfying that all the sweetness of mankind. I have done this myself in the past, now I know that I cannot steal the glory that belongs to God. It is His and His alone!
